The Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (UNIB) and the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER), through the Social Action department, announce the five finalists of the first phase of the FUNIBER Investiga International Pre-University Award.
From among the 25 research projects received, a team made up of teachers from the academic network in which FUNIBER participates has reviewed and selected the five finalist projects that will go on to the next stage of the Award.
The selection of the projects has taken into account originality, creativity, academic rigour, as well as the relevance and pertinence of the subject matter.
The five finalist projects are:
- “Recuperação do Cerrado: Implantação de uma Estufa de Mudas Nativas como Estratégia de Preservação e Educação Ambiental” - CEPI Oemis Virginio Machado, Brazil.
- “Fitorremediación y filtración de aguas contaminadas del río Machángara, Quito - Ecuador” by students from the Colegio ISM North, Ecuador.
- “Establishment of native stingless bee hives by sixth graders at the Gimnasio Campestre School in the city of Ibagué” - Colegio Gimnasio Campestre, Colombia.
- “Proposal for an experiment to validate methanotrophic bacterial living conditions in Titan and its use to combat climate change” - Colegio Alemán Alexander von Humboldt in Mexico
- “Social anxiety disorder in adolescents at Gimnasio Campestre school” - Gimnasio Campestre School, Colombia
Next phase
The finalist projects must make an oral defense of their work before the jury on February 18th. The presentation will take place virtually. The finalist project that does not present itself in the oral defense will not be eligible for an award.
Award ceremony
After the oral defense, the jury will choose the winning projects. The first place winner will receive a prize of $400 for the authors and $250 for the educational center. The second place winner will receive a prize of $200 for the authors and $125 for the educational center.
The teachers responsible for the winning projects will receive a scholarship from the Ibero-American University Foundation, which will provide 70% of the financial aid to study one of the online postgraduate programs or 60% to study one of the online doctorates promoted by FUNIBER for graduates from a university in the network.
All finalists will receive a diploma of recognition.
First and second place winners who in the future want to study at one of the universities in the network whose programs are sponsored by FUNIBER will also be exempt from paying enrolment fees.
FUNIBER Investiga International Pre-University Award
The FUNIBER Investiga Award is organized in collaboration with the European University of the Atlantic, the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (UNIC, Angola), the International Ibero-American University (UNINI, Mexico), the International University Foundation of Colombia (UNINCOL, Colombia), the University of La Romana (UNIROMANA, Dominican Republic) and the International Ibero-American University (UNIB, Spain).
The purpose is to encourage research and knowledge with a positive social impact. This call for entries aims to reward work that investigates proposals for transformation to meet current challenges. Our purpose is to reinforce the ethics and commitment of future professionals to society and an awareness of the social impact of science. It also aims to promote critical and scientific thinking among the younger generations.
The topics addressed sought solutions framed within the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda.
