The Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (International Iberomerican University, UNIB) in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, participated, through its delegate, Dr. Carol Morales, at the 1st International Congress on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education.

This event, supported by the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), was held at the theater of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. Experts from the United States, Spain, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Puerto Rico participated during the conferences, with the objective of exposing the benefits and challenges of artificial intelligence in the educational field.

Yuma Inzolia, UNESCO IESALC capacity building director, opened the event with a talk on "Ethics with Artificial Intelligence." In her speech, she addressed the impact of AI on culture, communication, and education, recognizing the need to guarantee human rights in the use of this powerful tool. UNESCO is actively investigating some factors that may limit individual rights in this context.

Subsequently, other speakers delved into the use of AI as a pedagogical tool. Guillermo Caicedo, Microsoft's Azure AI specialist, presented several applications that educators can take advantage of using this generative artificial intelligence technology.

For example, Microsoft Copilot, like Chat GPT, are technologies designed to enhance creativity, efficiency, and productivity in learning. Using GPT-4, Copilot can access the Internet and provide more accurate and up-to-date answers. In addition, it integrates DALL-E 3, a technology that generates images from text.

Therefore, educational technologies such as Copilot allow teachers to organize themselves more effectively, as they can be integrated with programs such as Excel and Word. This AI tool in the classroom offers an enriching experience for educators and students.

UNIB, through the presence of its rector in this type of event, demonstrates its commitment to education and educational innovation to promote learning and development of all people interested in bettering themselves.   In accordance with its mission and objectives, UNIB seeks to learn about new technological innovations to apply them to its teaching axes from an integrative and responsible vision.
