The rector of the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (International Iberoamerican University of Mexico) (UNINI Mexico), Dr. Luis Alonso Dzul, collaborates with the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (International Iberoamerican University) (UNIB) to design a solar tracking system for climate monitoring.
Agriculture plays an elemental role in the economy and in supplying food to people around the world. With the increasing demand for food and the reduction of fertile land, there is a need to improve crop yields and quality. However, one of the aspects that greatly affects agricultural productivity is climatic conditions.
In recent years, the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, has gained momentum in agriculture as it helps to decrease the carbon footprint of agricultural operations. Likewise, solar tracking systems are useful for remote weather monitoring. The ability to collect real-time data on weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, and rainfall would help farmers make informed decisions on irrigation, pest control, and other farming practices.
Thus, the development of a solar tracking system for remote weather monitoring in agriculture would undoubtedly improve agricultural productivity and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources. Therefore, the objective of this research has been to design an intelligent system to optimize the efficiency of solar panels to provide constant power to the sensor in the agricultural field. The proposed solar tracking system is dual-axis to optimize the collection of renewable energy.
Research results
Results have shown that the proposed approach increased efficiency by 52% compared to fixed solar panels. This system also generated temperature, humidity, and air quality data to farmers via a mobile application. The integration of AI techniques into the intelligent system improved the stability of the solar panel performance. The results of this research prove the efficiency of the proposed intelligent system.
