The researcher from the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (International Iberoamerican University) (UNIB), Marco Antonio Rojo, is participating in a study that presents a product recommendation system based on positive and negative user feedback.
In recent years, the e-commerce industry has gained popularity, thanks to the trend of online shopping. It is very common for customers to write reviews about the products they purchase to express their opinions; they tend to do so in various ways, through publications on social media, comments on brand portals, and review publishing sites on the Internet.
They usually point out the advantages and disadvantages of products, and many people rely on these opinions to consider the quality of a product and decide whether or not to buy it. These reviews are not only useful for other consumers but also for the authorities of the companies that make decisions about the purchase of a certain product up to the prediction of the price of shares in the stock markets.
However, it is quite complex to extract valuable information from the myriad of reviews since opinions and expectations may vary regarding the characteristics of the same product. There are several studies that classify products according to user specifications; however, they tend to emphasize the positive expectations, leaving aside the negative aspects. In addition, all existing studies show products to users in a similar way, regardless of the real needs of each user.
Therefore, this research seeks to propose an efficient system to select and rank products according to user specifications, based on the factors that take into consideration the positive and negative sentiments of these factors. This shows the impact of the different positive and negative aspects of the products on the characteristics reported by the user. For this purpose, a framework called PRUS was used to generate a ranked product recommendation list.
