Dr. Aman Singh, a researcher at the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (International Iberoamerican University) (UNIB), is involved in a study on the creation of an online learning system to improve the experience of novice learners.
In recent years, online learning has been gaining importance and popularity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of students enrolled in the various MOOC platforms increased, such as Coursera, Udemy, Swayam, Udacity, Khan Academy, etc.
However, current learning systems do not take into account students' profiles and preferences. That is, when a student searches for any online course, they get a large list of available platforms and courses. Deciding which platform to study on and which course suits your preferences and needs becomes a complex and time-consuming process. Mainly, if the student is a novice to online learning.
As a consequence, they choose any course at random, and this increases the probability of dropping out of the subject, generating a negative impact on the instructor. To improve the learning experience for users, especially beginners, it is essential to propose a recommendation system to propose relevant courses from various MOOC platforms, according to the learner's preferences.
To achieve the above, an intelligent profiling system for online learning environments is needed. In this way, a thorough understanding of students' learning needs and behavior can be gained. In addition, the personalization of any platform helps the system act as an intelligent agent for learners.
It is essential to give people the opportunity to be trained by combining education with the Internet. Therefore, the main contribution of this study is the implementation of an intelligent profiling system, based on a user interface to optimize the adaptation of the student, where he/she will receive the recommendation of subjects according to his/her preferences and needs.
