The Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (International Iberoamerican University) (UNIB), in its work of scientific promotion, promotes the research conducted by the researcher of the university, Daniel Gavilanes Aray, who together with other researchers proposes a system based on IoT sensors to detect the concentration of alcohol in drivers and achieve a vehicle monitoring through GPS.
In a world where traffic accidents are a constant concern, a research project sponsored by UNIB has emerged to prevent tragedies related to driving under the influence of alcohol. Drunk driving has been responsible for countless human losses and property damage, but this research promises a significant change in how this serious problem is addressed.
The study, conducted by a team of experts, has presented a safe, scalable, and economically viable solution for the detection of drunk drivers. Traditional methods, where police officers personally inspect each suspect vehicle, have proven to be inefficient and susceptible to human error. The proposed new solution addresses these limitations by incorporating Internet of Things (IoT) technology and using blockchain technology to secure the transmission of information.
The system is based on IoT sensors strategically placed in vehicles, which monitor the alcohol concentration in the driver's breath, vehicle behavior, and location through GPS sensors. This combination of data allows an accurate estimation of the driver's blood alcohol level (—Blood Alcohol Concentration—, BAC), as well as an assessment of his or her driving behavior. Even if an attempt is made to cover the alcohol sensor, the system is able to detect intoxicated drivers effectively, which represents a major advance compared to previous systems.
The implementation of blockchain technology adds an additional layer of security to the system. All data collected is immutably recorded on the blockchain, ensuring the integrity of the information and preventing cyber attacks. In addition, the system is highly scalable, enabling efficient and secure information transfer and retrieval.
