The FUNIBER Cultural Foundation and the European University of the Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO), in collaboration with the International Ibero-American University of Puerto Rico (UNIB) and the Municipality of San Juan, inaugurated two major exhibitions on April 15 at the San Juan Museum—the first of their kind in the territory—featuring the renowned artist Joan Miró: “The Song of the Sun” and “Acrostic Wonders.

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures from the academic, cultural, and diplomatic spheres, including the rector of UNIB, Dr. Carol Morales; the director of the Art Museum, Dr. Luis Pérez; the director of Art and Culture, Mr. Víctor Rivera; the mayor of San Juan, Miguel A. Romero Lugo; the First Lady of the Municipality of San Juan, Maritere González; and the Spanish Consul, Josep María Bosch Bessa, among other special guests.

The exhibition, open to the public from April 16 through mid-July 2026, brings together a total of 52 works that reflect different creative stages of the artist’s career. The first series, “Las maravillas con variaciones acrósticas en el jardín de Miró,” consists of a collection of lithographs published in 1975 alongside texts by the writer Rafael Alberti. These pieces evoke a poetic universe inspired by nature and the artist’s personal life. Meanwhile, The Canticle of the Sun consists of 32 color etchings and aquatints, created in the mid-1970s and inspired by the famous poem by Francis of Assisi, offering a visual interpretation rich in symbolism and spirituality.

“This exhibition represents an extraordinary opportunity to bring our people closer to the work of an internationally renowned artist like Joan Miró. In San Juan, we continue to champion culture as a fundamental pillar of our city, creating spaces where art, education, and cultural experiences are accessible to all,” said Romero Lugo.

The opening featured a dynamic and participatory atmosphere, attended by diverse cultural communities and people of all ages. The evening included musical performances that enriched the experience, fostering cultural exchange and an appreciation for the arts.

With this initiative, UNIB, FUNIBER, and UNEATLANTICO reaffirm their commitment to promoting education and culture. Through projects like this, the institutions continue to promote access to knowledge and strengthen their role as leaders in the region’s academic and cultural spheres.
