The Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de Puerto Rico (International Iberoamerican University, UNIB) will organize next May 27 and 28 the online seminar «Telecommunications and Digital Society in the European Union», within the closing of the second course of the Jean Monnet Chair «Telecommunications Policy in the EU and Information Society», offered by the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO).
The seminar will be held in a hybrid format, from the UNEATLANTICO auditorium, and will be streamed live on the university's YouTube channel. To follow the seminar online, registration is required:

Some of the country's most important institutions in the field of telecommunications will take part in the two-day event. The session will also provide an opportunity to take stock of the second academic year of the Jean Monnet Chair. The European Commission, through the Erasmus+ program, granted this university chair to UNEATLANTICO in 2022 with the aim of strengthening teaching and research on the integration of member states.
The event is held in collaboration with the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (International Iberoamerican University of Mexico, UNINI Mexico), the Fundación Universitaria Internacional de Colombia (International University Foundation of Colombia, UNINCOL), the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana, UNIROMANA).
After the opening of the seminar, by Rubén Calderón, rector of UNEATLANTICO, Prof. Dr. Benjamín Sahelices, dean of the Professional Association of Computer Engineers of Castilla y León (CPII-CyL), will give the first conference on Monday. In this session, the importance of ICT professionals in the development of telecommunications policies in the European Union will be presented.
Next, Prof. Dr. Jorge Pérez Martínez, director of the Internet Governance Forum in Spain, will give the session «Europe's situation in global geopolitics». In it, the speaker will explain how the globalization of the world economy has led to the formation of geopolitical blocs around both political and commercial interests.
The day will be closed by Brigadier General Dr. Fernando Davara, with the session «Cyber Defense-Cybersecurity in Europe». His session will deal with how globalization has also given rise to the question of defense and attack between different countries in cyberspace, as well as guaranteeing the security of communications in general.
The seminar will continue on Tuesday, May 28, with a session by Pablo Herrán, Director General of Transport and Communications of the Government of Cantabria, focused on the situation of the telecommunications sector in this autonomous community. Subsequently, Miguel López Coronado, director of the chair, will speak on the prospects for electronic communications in the European Union. Finally, the future of the telecommunications sector will be discussed by Juan Luis Redondo Maíllo, director of Digital Public Policies at Telefónica.
Silvia Aparicio, UNEATLANTICO's Vice Rector for Academic Planning and Faculty, will close the seminar.
