"Telecommunications: the backbone of the European Union"

The Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de Puerto Rico (International Iberoamerican University, UNIB) will organize, next October 1st at 16:00 hours (GMT+2), the webinar "Telecommunications: a backbone element of the European Union".

The session will be given by Miguel López Coronado and is part of the Jean Monnet Chair "Telecommunications Policy in the EU and Information Society" which is held by the Universidad Europea del Atlántico (European University of the Atlantic, UNEATLANTICO) and is facing its last academic year this 2024/2025. 

Telecommunications have become a vital aspect of modern society and involve all transmission and reception of signals of any nature, typically electromagnetic, containing signs, sounds, images or, in short, any type of information to be communicated over a certain distance. It represents an important part of the economic growth of employment and investment in Europe. The development of transmission media has also changed traditional ways of thinking and cultural patterns. 

The event is held in collaboration with the Iberoamerican University Foundation (FUNIBER), the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana de México (International Iberoamerican University of Mexico, UNINI Mexico), the Fundación Universitaria Internacional de Colombia (International University Foundation of Colombia, UNINCOL), the Universidade Internacional do Cuanza (International University of Cuanza, UNIC), and the Universidad de La Romana (University of La Romana, UNIROMANA).

The objectives of the Jean Monnet Chairs, which are specialized teaching positions in European Union studies for university professors and associate professors, are: to improve the teaching of EU studies through specialized programs; to conduct, monitor and supervise research on EU-related topics at all levels of education; to train and advise the next generation of teachers and researchers; and to provide qualified guidance to future professionals in European affairs.
