All of UNIB's academic programs are offered exclusively online, through a flexible curriculum that enables students to study from anywhere with Internet access.

Although programs have standard durations (for example, four years for bachelor’s degrees and two years for full-time master’s degrees), students may progress at their own pace, provided they meet the criteria for satisfactory academic progress set forth in the Institutional Catalog and the Student Handbook.

Recommended technical requirements:
- A mid-range or higher-end computer, such as one with a processor equivalent to an Intel i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 or higher at the time this Student Handbook was written.
- An up-to-date operating system (Windows, Mac OS X, or a GNU/Linux distribution such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint) compatible with the UNIB platform.
- An up-to-date web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Safari, with JavaScript enabled and, where applicable, support for Java and cookies enabled for certain features, such as chats or ticket-based authentication
- A stable Internet connection that allows for at least two hours of online work per day, particularly for accessing the campus, downloading materials, and completing assessments.
- Monitor, webcam, and audio system (microphone and speakers or headphones), required for video conferences, tutorials, and exams monitored via video proctoring.
UNIB notes that these specifications are not mandatory for admission, since the virtual campus is accessible via computers available in public spaces or those available for hourly rental; however, adhering to the technical recommendations ensures optimal use of the educational resources.

UNIB has implemented a Guidance and Counseling Program that helps students develop study habits, manage their time, adapt to online learning, prepare for assignments, and maintain the consistency needed to progress through the program.
The main support services include:
- Office of Student Services, which provides guidance on accessing the online portal, course materials, transcripts, documentation, and administrative procedures related to academic life.
- Tutors and professors are available through the virtual campus to answer questions about course content, provide guidance on assessment activities, offer academic feedback, and support students throughout the learning process.
- Technical Support, responsible for addressing issues related to the platform's operation, access to content, or technical problems that affect the conduct of online academic activities.
- Professional counseling services that provide preventive and remedial support for emotional, motivational, or adjustment issues that may interfere with academic performance, both online and, when appropriate, in person.

Online Assessment and Identity Verification
Assessments in UNIB's distance learning programs are conducted entirely online through a system that combines authenticated access, tracking of student activity, subjective and objective assessment techniques, and identity verification via videoconference.
Each student has a unique username and password to access the virtual campus and graded activities; the system can track relevant information such as login times, participation patterns, and IP addresses associated with exam attempts.
Assessment methods include academic assignments, practical activities, essay exams, participation in forums, and portfolios, as well as multiple-choice, true/false, and matching tests, so that knowledge, skills, and competencies can be evaluated from different perspectives.
To ensure the authenticity of students’ work on exams and key assignments, UNIB uses both asynchronous and synchronous video conferencing proctoring systems, which require students to identify themselves with an official ID in front of the webcam and have their performance recorded for review.
Under the current version of the asynchronous monitoring system, students are required to take a minimum of three proctored exams during the program, corresponding to milestones representing approximately 15%, 45%, and 70% of the credits completed.
Assessment grade validity is contingent upon the proctored exam's outcome, and any indication of misconduct may result in a review of the case and the application of the institution’s policies on academic integrity and discipline.
Academic Standards and Progress in Distance Learning
The success criteria for academic progress apply equally to students enrolled in distance learning programs, establishing minimum percentages of credits passed and grade point averages (GPAs) that must be achieved within specified timeframes:
- Bachelor's degree: minimum annual passing grade of 67% and a GPA of at least 2.00
- Master's degree: at least 40% of credits in the first year and a GPA of 3.00 or higher
- Doctorate: structured into academic and research phases, to be completed within a maximum of five years
