The Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana (UNIB) establishes its core policies to ensure academic excellence and the protection of students, based on the Institutional Catalog and the Student Handbook (January–December 2025–2026).
Policy on Maintaining the Academic Offerings
The University states that the programs it offers are based on studies of social needs and scientific and professional demand; therefore, its academic offerings are considered relevant and appropriate. This will continue as long as those needs and the corresponding demand remain, with a duration long enough to allow for the formation of cohorts of graduates capable of applying the knowledge they have acquired.
In this context, the University commits to:
- Addressing academic or administrative issues to the best of our ability, in accordance with institutional regulations.
- Updating the content every two years or as needed.
- Reviewing, if necessary, the annual schedule of studies.
- Updating the curriculum as necessary.
- Adjusting teaching methods based on observed academic performance.
Changes implemented will not affect students who are currently enrolled when they take effect; these students will continue to be governed by the rules applicable to their academic status, and their curriculum will remain in effect for up to two years, in accordance with current regulations.
Commitment to Ensuring the Continuation of Studies in the Event of Institutional Closure (Teach-Out)
In the event of the University ceasing operations, it agrees to facilitate the completion of studies for currently enrolled students in accordance with the terms set forth in the Student Agreement.
To this end:
- It will maintain a student services office for up to one year to provide guidance and assistance throughout the process.
- It will maintain an up-to-date list of active students by program, including their name, identification document (passport or driver’s license), access ID, estimated completion date, and academic and financial status.
- It will continue to offer the programs through the Virtual Campus until the completion of the studies, at no additional cost, in accordance with the terms of the contract.
- It will apply the cancellation and refund provisions set forth in the Student Agreement as applicable.
- It will act in accordance with Article 48 of the Regulations for the Licensing of Institutions of Higher Education in Puerto Rico (October 9, 2012), originally under the Puerto Rico Council of Education (CEPR, Consejo de Educación de Puerto Rico) and currently under the supervision of the Board of Postsecondary Institutions (JIP, Junta de Instituciones Postsecundarias).
- It will request custody of the academic records of current students and graduates from the JIP by submitting the corresponding digitized copy.
- It will promptly notify current students, alumni, and the JIP of the measures taken, via electronic and physical means.
Complaints and Grievance Process
The Grievance and Appeal Process is the mechanism through which students may file appeals when they believe their rights have been violated, when they disagree with an administrative or academic decision, or when they believe their ability to complete the program of study may be affected.
Both administrative staff and faculty will be given the time they need to present their side of the story.
If necessary, the matter may be referred to law enforcement agencies in Puerto Rico or to the Board of Postsecondary Institutions (JIP).
This procedure will be available at all times on the institutional website, in the Institutional Catalog, in the Student Handbook, and in the Faculty Handbook.
Policy on Harassment and Cyberbullying
In compliance with Act 85 of August 7, 2017, as amended, the Anti-Harassment and Intimidation Act (Alexander Santiago Martínez Act), and in accordance with the principles established in the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico regarding the right to an education oriented toward the full development of the personality and respect for human rights, the Universidad Internacional Iberoamericana prohibits all forms of bullying or cyberbullying that affect the dignity or emotional well-being of any member of the university community.
These behaviors include any hostile action that causes emotional distress, whether physical, verbal, or through electronic means, including threats, sexually suggestive remarks, derogatory labels, or the dissemination of false information.
Any student who believes they are being harassed has the right to file a complaint with the appropriate office. The Department will provide guidance and immediate assistance and will oversee the appropriate institutional procedures.
The Deanship of Student Affairs will receive and document complaints, ensuring appropriate confidentiality in accordance with applicable regulations.
Depending on the severity of the case, disciplinary actions such as a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent expulsion may be imposed in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
Full details of these provisions can be found in the Student Handbook.
